本研究の実績について主要サブテーマ毎に要約すると以下のとおりである。アメリカ穀物流通・加工セクターにおける1980年代以来の大規模な再編成の結果、穀物流通の競争構造には著しい変化がもたらされた。第一は、流通各段階における水平的な集中度の上昇である。集中度は輸出部門や加工部門からなる川下段階で最も高く、ついて中継段階、集荷段階の順であるが、集中度の上昇幅については逆順であった。第二に、川下段階で寡占的シェアを形成した大規模多角的穀物関連企業が中継、集荷への後方統合や系列化を進めた結果、流通諸段階を貫く垂直的な集積が進行したことをあらわす。これらの結果段階間の穀物取引はより組織化されており、地域市場での価格形成手法も組織化の程度に照応して変化している。まず集荷段階まで単一企業内に統合したケースではその販路決定と販売価格は当該企業の中枢マ-チャンダイズ部門によって集中的に管理されている。次に資産買収や株式取得等によって企業グループ化・系列化したケースでは、売買の第一選択権を企業集団の中核部門が留保する形で後者の利益を優先できるような調整様式が広範に採用されている。また、集荷-中継-輸出の組織三段階制とその間での独立的な事業運営を特徴としていた穀物農協においても、組織再編による段階短縮や段階間取引における第一選択権の導入など、流通体系再編への適応を進めている。わが国最大の実需者の一つである全国農業協同組合のアメリカ子会社全農グレインも、こうした穀物流通体系の垂直的組織化という構造変化、その半面での独立的事業者から構成されるスポット市場の縮小に対応するために、現地中堅穀物企業の買収による系列化や独立系産地集荷業者との長期取引関係の構築を進めてきているが、さらに子会社自身のアメリカ穀物セクターでの競争力維持のために現地加工部門への進出にも乗り出した。
