THE IDEA OF ATLASES

阿尔泰斯在欧洲的历史可以追溯到罗马时代托勒密的地理学，并在文艺复兴时期复兴。但第一本现代地图集出自A.Ortelius的《Theatrum Orbis Terrarum》，出版于1570年。本研究项目遵循以下几点；1)对《地理》、《剧院·奥比斯·泰拉姆》和《墨卡托地图集》几个版本的考察。2)对编者前言和地图附文所表达的地图集思想进行分析。3) Theatrum Orbis Terrarum与其他现代地图集的比较。研究结果如下：1)现代阿尔泰不仅描绘了整个世界，而且表达了编写者的世界观、宗教立场和宇宙观。地图集的思想层次从奥特利乌斯的商业考虑到墨卡托的科学考虑。

The history of altases in Europe traces back to Geographia of Ptolemy in Roman times and it revives in the Renaissance. But the first modern atlas is originated from A.Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum published in 1570.This research project persuits the following points ;1)The survey of the several editions of Geographia, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum and Mercator's Atlas.2)The analysis of the idea of atlases expressed in the compiler's forewords and the texts attached to the maps.3)The comparison between Theatrum Orbis Terrarum and other modern atlases.The results of research are as follows ;1)The modern altases not only delineate the whole world, but also express the world view, religious standpoints and the cosmology of their compilers.2)The level of ideas for atlases range from the commercial concern of Ortelius to the scientific one of Mercator.
