The purpose of this project is to construct the databases on the modern urban maps in East Asia from mid 19^<th> to mid 20^<th> century, and to analyze them diachronically and synchronically and then discuss the homogeneity and difference of map culture and urban landscape. The results are widely presented at many international conferences on the history of cartography and at some domestic meetings of historical geography and symposia on the urban mapping in East Asia. In this project we find many new maps in China, Korea and Far Eastern Russia.
