During this period we have been working on anomalies of 4d QCD from holography and gained some insight into the problem.In parallel, we have been working on the question of non-supersymmetric fixed points in 5d. 5d fixed points are intrinsically non-perturbative, and cannot be detected using traditional methods, such as perturbing around free field Lagrangian. However, during the 21st century, a plethora of interacting superconformal theories in 5d were explicitly constructed in string theory. The second decade of the 21st century saw a successful application of topological phases in 3d gauge theories. In particular many fixed points were predicted by detecting a region of the phase space of given QFTs where a jump in the Chern Simons coupling occurs. The integrality of this level makes it a rather robust quantity under RG, and in particular a change in the sign of this quantity is typically a signal that some interesting physics is lurking behind. Given the enormous success of such ideas in 3d, it is natural to initiate a program to export some of these ideas to investigate 5d gauge theories. In particular, we tried to implement this in supersymmetry breaking deformations. We scanned through 5d gauge theories whose background Chern Simons level, for the instantonic symmetry shows a change in sign, as we vary the value of the gauge coupling. This allowed us to extend the phase diagram of several families of 5d SCFTs.
