本研究は、多元的表現様相の典型例である文書画像を処理対象とした、高次自動理解システムの開発を目的とするものである。従来は、このような画像と文章が有機的に融合された文書画像を処理対象ごとに分離し、画像解析、文章解析という別個の処理システムによって解析していた。しかしながら、文書画像に含まれる画像と文章は相補的なものであるために、個別的な処理では多くの有用な情報が欠落し、高次自動理解を行うことは困難であった。本研究では、画像解析と言語解析を統一した言語系で処理を行い、大規模な知識ベースシステムによって文書画像を管理しようとするものである。本年度は、昨年の実績を踏まえていくつかの応用システムの開発を行った。第一は、高次理解システムのうち、構文・意味・文脈解析を統一的に実行する自然言語処理システムIPである。IPはLexical Functional Grammarに基づいた構文・意味解析を行い、さらに解析結果として得られる文の意味表現を利用して、文章の連接関係のボトムアップ的抽出、及び常識的知識を用いたトップダウン的な文脈解析を融合し、統一的に文章を理解しようとするものである。第二は、自然言語による仕様からのプログラム合成システムである。本システムは、Prologを目標言語として捉え、日本語文の記述から様々な知識を用いてプログラムを自動合成するものである。本システムの応用事例として、磁気テープ化された市販辞書の構造化処理を取り上げ、その有効性を確認した。第三は、Prologと関係データベースシステムを結合した大規模知識ベース構築用ツールDB-Prologである。DB-Prologは、Prolog側から関係データベースに格納された単位節とユニフィケーションを行う機能、利用者が自由に定義したデータベースの作成、及び検索を行う機能を持つシステムである。DB-Prologの応用事例として、フレーム構造に基づいた知識ベースシステムのプロトタイプを開発した。
