本年度は応用解析の面からアプローチに特に力を入れた。61年9月にはポーランド科学アカデミーのI.Pawlow氏を招き、また、62年1月には、パリ第6大学のA.Hareaux氏を招き、Stefan問題や非線型発展方程式等について活発な意見の交換が行われた。劒持 はステファン問題に対して著しい成果をあげた、即ちステファン問題やダム問題に代表される自由境界問題の数学的アプローチを試み、これらの問題をヒルベルト空間における劣微分作用素を用いて非線型発展方程式として表現すること、また、それらの抽象方程式をとくこと、更に、時間パラメーターに関する解の漸近挙動を調べることに重点をおいた。特にサーモスタット等による自由境界制御の問題に対応して不連続な非線型ノイマン条件の下での1次元ステファン問題では、解の存在・一意性、解の時間に関する漸近挙動のほぼ最終的な結果をえた。蔵野 はマルコフ決定過程の理論に対して十分な成果をあげた、即ち非有界なボレル可測コスト関数をもつマルコフ決定過程を平均基準の下で扱い、V期縮少性を導入し、状態空間のコンパクト性、コスト関数の連続性の仮定なしで最適方程式を導き、最適定常政策の存在定理を与えた。鵜沢 は古典的なワイルのLemmaをとりあげその4つの代表的な証明法を比較検討した。以上の諸成果はスタイン空間の今後の発展に多くの寄与をすることが期待される。
