Multidisciplinary Researches on the Societies of the Niger Bend

Forms and functions of culturally conditioned techniques of the body were investigated especially in : (1) farming labor with a short-handled hoe,(2) potter's work,(3) weaving work at African and Western loom. In general,culturally formed "motor habits" are useful for works of the handicraft,to assure the quality as well as the efficiency of the products.2. Relations between lslamic marabouts and pagan political chiefs in ancient lslamic city were clarified in the case of Ja,a famous but mysterius city in the Central Delta of the Niger.3. Social and cultural changes resulting from the changes of the techniques of construction of the Bozo fishing boats were studies.4. A complicated but harmonious situation of multi-ethnic coexistence was investigated in the city of Djenne, an old commercial center in the Central Delta of the Niger Bend.5. The process of technological adaptation to the changing ecological conditions was analysed through the case of the pastral Fulani in the Central Delta of the Niger Bend.6. Besides the above studies, the archaeological research in the lakeland of the Central Delta, as well as the investigation on the women's activity in the polygamous family of a Bambara village, were carried out by the Malien and Japanese researchers who participated partly to our research project as non official members.The report of our first field research written in French was fortunately well appreciated in Afican and European accademic circles. We expect that our second report, about 100 pages more volumes than the first report, always written in Frenceh, will make again important contributions to the African study.
