Research Project to Develop an English Educational Research Database

本研究以1977 ~ 1987年10年间日本国立大学和教育研究学会发表的教育研究论文为对象，建立了一个英文数据库。预计这项研究将有助于世界范围内对日本教育信息的需求。这种关于注释书目的数据库以前从未有过。以前的大部分作品都局限于书籍。即使是最新的教育研究数据库（使用日语）的系统工作也是大约十年前完成的。因此，这是教育领域最新的报告。为了使其与世界研究界相媲美，ERIC描述符在这个数据库中尽可能多地使用，因为ERIC似乎已经达到了世界标准状态。当很难从ERIC同义词库中找到合适的关键词时，我们添加了自己的关键词。该研究数据库中收集的论文达2，680篇，这些论文是从国立大学和学术协会出版的研究公报中收集的。数据库的建设工作中最大的部分是为每一篇研究论文找到合适的关键词。为此，聘请了两名美国学者。他们阅读了所有的论文并提出了关键词。然而，最后的选择是由作者做出的。为了对关键词做出最终判断，我们查阅了ERIC同义词词典，并尽可能多地使用与ERIC相同的关键词表达。当很难用ERIC描述词表达论文内容时，我们使用其他词。

In this is developmental research we have tried to establish an English database for educational research papers published in Japan during the past ten years from 1977 to 1987 in national colleges and universities and academic associations of educational research. It is expected that this research will contribute to the worldwide demands for information about education in Japan. This kind of database on annotated bibliography has never been available before. Most of the preceding works have been restricted to books. Even the most recent systematic work regarding educational research database (using Japanese) was made about a decade ago. Therefore, this is the most current report available of its kind in the field of education.In an attempt to make this comparable to the research community of the world, the ERIC descriptors are used in this database as much as possible for the ERIC seem to have achieved a worldwide standard status. When it was difficult to find a proper key word from the ERIC Thesaurus, we added our own. The papers collected in this research database amounts to 2,680 which are collected from the research bulletins published by national universities and academic associations. In total thirty-five universities are included.The largest part of the work for constructing a database was occupied by the endeavor of finding proper key words for each research paper. For this task, two American scholars were employed. They read all of the papers and suggested key words. However, the final selection was made by the author. In order to reach the final judgment with regard to key words we consulted the ERIC Thesaurus and tried to employ, as much as possible, the same key word expressions as the ERIC. When it was difficult to express the contents of the paper with the ERIC descriptors we used other words.
