A research survey on scholarly information interchange based on East Asian character codes/sets in international scale has been carried out between FY 1989 and 1991. Current status and feasibility are determined for the following topics :Character Processing :current status of character processing in China and Korea ;technical problems of database exchange :requirements for Korean and Chinese character processing in Japan ;East Asian Information Resources :information resources in East Asian scripts ;needs and demands ;information needs towards Chinese and Korean materials in Japan ;assessments on possible sharing of East Asian information resources.Bibliographic Control :national bibliographic databases in Korea and China ;data descriptions of bibliographic databases ;East Asian materials among Japanese university libraries ;data analysis on national union catalog databases.International Joint Research :expert exchange :case studiesassessments on international feasibility of data exchange and sharing.
