鹿児島大学歯学部,奄美大島笠利町教育委員会,徳之島伊仙町教育委員会,九州大学大学院保管の南九州・南西諸島の古人骨および現代人資料について,歯の計測(歯冠近遠心径,頬舌径,歯の全長,歯冠長,歯根長,上顎中切歯舌側面窩)と非計測項目(歯冠および歯根)の観察を行った。南西諸島の近世人の歯のデータを増加させるために徳之島の風葬人骨の現地調査を行った。徳之島では現代人のデータを得るために、地元歯科医と共同で、歯の印象を取り、歯列石膏模型を作製した。しかしながら、徳之島現代人資料は16例しか収集できず、現在も地元歯科医に協力を依頼し、歯列石膏模型の収集について努力している。また,南九州の現代人データを増加させるために鹿児島,宮崎両県出身の鹿児島大学歯学部学生の歯列石膏模型を作製し,データを採取した。南九州および南西諸島集団の比較資料として京都大学,九州大学保管の日本列島諸集団(縄文、弥生、古墳の各集団)についても上述の計測および観察を行った。現在、収集したデータの整理が終わった段階である。今後、徳之島現代人資料が100例に達した時点で、データを統計解析し,南九州および南西諸島内での各時代集団の歯の諸形質の時代変化をみる。また,日本列島諸集団のデータと比較し,統計解析処理を行う。以上を基に南九州および南西諸島の人々に対する渡来人の影響を,歯冠・歯根形質の面から考察する予定である。その際,南九州集団と南西諸島集団との親疎関係についても検討したい。
