平成8年度は、平成9年度から新たに始まる脳研究助成および既存の研究助成について資料を集め、平成9年2月12日に班会議を開催し、調査結果について討議した。討議の内容およびび結論は次の通りである。1.平成9年度の脳研究助成1)文部省脳研究推進小委員会、学術審議会バイオサイエンス部会等で研究助成を検討中2)科学技術庁脳科学総合研究所、戦略基礎研究、科学振興調整費3)厚生省アルツハイマー病などの痴呆、ALSなどの脳疾患、精神分裂病などの病因解明、検査法、治療法の開発4)通産省国立研究所の特別研究など電子総合研究所:生体における情報統合プロセスに関する研究、行動下サルの神経活動の光計測技術2.望まれる研究推進策我が国の脳科学推進事業は平成9年度に歴史的な1歩を印すことになったが、脳科学の特段の推進のためには、若手研究者の育成、脳研究のすそ野の拡大、大学研究所等の研究体制の改革等を更に進める必要がある。このために基盤研究Bなどの研究調査活動を通じて、我が国の脳研究の現状、動向など基礎的資料を正確に把握し、具体的な研究推進策を早急に策定し、実施する必要がある。
