This study is intended to connect two or more computers on a network for lacal and remote learners to share a learning environment and to develop an environment-dependent learning support system that provides a learning environment for each learner. This learning support system connected on a network enables each learner to send the tool he or she has prepared to another to explanin his or her opinion, and to operate his or her tool linked to another's to read another's opinion.The system has been developed with the Intelligent Pad system being developed at Hokkaido University.The study was conducted for two years ; a learning and teaching material distribution system was implemented in 1996. Based on this system, it was made possible in 1997 to distribute material operetion details and material data prepared by learners and lecturers. The learners and lectrurers save the operation details and data on the server computer and read or reproduce them from the server to thier computer. This prevents reproduced operations from interfering with each other. It has also been made possible to use the computer of each learner or lecturer as the server, so the learners and lecturers can exchange the teaching materials, operation details, and data with each other. The sutdy has further made it possible for each learner to check and explain his or her view and to prepare nwe learning and teaching materials by editing the operation details and data.The study has implemented almost all of the initially planned items. Also, the learners and lecturers have edited the operation details better than expected.
