Database Construction on Wood Utilization and Environmental Education

It is becoming an important issue to provide correct and large amount of information to the whole society on wood as recyclable resource and its roles and effectiveness. Especially, it is an urgent task to supply information on wood related with environment. To support it, this study aims to construct database which has accumulated various information on research, education, and administration or industry, economy, and culture that are related with environment for utilizing wood.In order to collect basic information for database construcfion, we asked 463 organizations to fill in a questionnaire : 69 colleges, 53 teacher training colleges or departments, 93 research institutes, 52 administrative institutes, 34 groups of various types, and 162 companies. The questionnaire asked about (1) research on wood related with environment and the research results on wood education, (2) development of wood products or wood teaching materials, and efforts and events on wood related with environment.We received 354 answers for question (1), 67 for (2), and 130 for (3). The detailed information earned by this survey has been classified and stored on database software and is also open to the public on home page via Internet. It is a future task to accumulate additional information, to update the information, and to establish the system for providing the information broadly to the places for lifelong education such as social education or school education, in-company education, and home education.
