本研究では1.国内で得られる旧樺太関連資料として、(1)歴史、統計関係「樺太事情」(明治38)等18件、(2)樺太民政署・樺太庁関連「樺太要覧」(明治41-昭和17)、「樺太殖民地選定報文」(明治43)等13件、(3)職員録関係「樺太庁職員録」(昭和5-19)、「樺太庁営繕課職員録」(昭和20頃)等11件、(4)「樺太人名録」(昭和24)等人物関係7件、(5)自治体、団体史等7件、(6)写真集・絵はがき等34件、(7)古地図18葉を収集した。2.新聞に表れた建築関連事項として、「樺太日日新聞」明治43年5月-大正3年6月(北大附属図書館蔵)から1,078件および「北日本」明治44年6月-9月(函館図書館蔵)から37件を収集した。3.サハリンで活動した主な建築家、建築技術者として、田村鎮(1878-1942)、橋本勉(?-1943)、湯川甲三(1853-1915)のほか13名の技手を確認したが、技手の経歴等については今後に課題を残した。さらに主要建設業者として、遠藤米七(?-1935)、森川菊造、大橋秀次(1875-?)、庄内周次、川西幸八らが挙げられ、新聞の建設関連記事から建設工事を明らかにした。また遠藤と大橋について略歴を明らかにした。4.在サハリン関連資料状況として、ホルムスクでは、旧樺太工業真岡工場(現ホルムスク製紙工場)工場配置図、ユジノサハリンスクでは旧北海同拓殖銀行豊原支店(現サハリン州美術館)設計図、サハリン州公文書館蔵史料のうち3件の建設関連史料が確認された。また現存建築としてホルムスクで8件、ユジノサハリンスクで65件、コルサコフで2件が確認された。以上の調査をもとに、主要都市豊原(ユジノサハリンスク)で124、大泊(コルサコフ)で80、真岡(ホルムスク)で35件の建築物リストおよび基本データベース化をはかり、所在地の確定できるものに関しては建築マップを作成した。
