貯血を行った肺癌手術例の90.9%で無輸血や自己血のみで術中、術後の管理が可能で通常の輸血を必要としなかった。自己血輸血の副作用は肝機能障害などは認めなかったが輸血中の発熱を2例に認めた。術後の生存率をCaplan-Meier法で算出するとII、III期症例では自己血輸血群と同種血輸血群とほぼ同じであったが、I期症例では5年生存率90.3%と有意に良好であった。自己血輸血による術前後の免疫能の変動はNK活性、PHA幼若化反応、CD4CD8比では認めなかったがIAPは術後上昇していた。肺癌症例に術前2〜3回採血(平均536ml)を行ったが術直前のHb値の低下はわずかであった。また多くの症例では輸血が必要となっても平均536mlの自己血貯血のみでたり、同種血を必要としなかった。自己血輸血症例の免疫能の変動はIAPは術後上昇したもののNK活性、PHA幼若化反応、CD4CD8比は術後はほとんど変動しなかった。しかしI期症例の術後5年生存率は無輸血や同種血輸血群と比べ良好であった。
