1. Molecular design of Artificial Glycoconjugate PolymersSeveral convenient synthetic routes of biologically important, complex oligosaccharides have been developed and then these oligosaccharides have been converted to the corresponding glycopolymers.(1) Gb3-trisaccharide (Galα1-4-Galβ1-4-Glcb) was synthesized from lactose and converted to acrylamide-type monomeric substance, followed by polymerization.(2) Mannose trisaccharide was synthesized by a convenient route and introduced to glycopolymer.2. Characterization of the glycopolymers.(1) Cluster effect in glyco recognition was investigated by the interactions with lectins.(2) Carbohydrate-carbohydrate interaction was investigated by p-A isotherms abd surface plasmon resonance techniques.3. Applications to Materials Biotechnology(1) Trapping of influenza viruses by sialyl-lactose-carrying glycopolymer(2) Neutralization of E-coli O-157 toxins by Gb3-trisaccharide-carrying glycopolymer(3) Production of antibodies by sulfated-galactose-carrying glycopolymers
