项目摘要

主要5大都市のホワイトカラー50名(男40、女10)に対して「仕事と余暇」に関する面接聴き取り調査とアンケート調査を実施した。その結果、次の諸点が明らかとなった。1)会社での仕事の時間配分は各人の裁量によるところが多いが、あらかじめ残業を織り込んでいるため、正規の終業時間内で仕事を終えるという時間意識が弱く、時間管理に厳密性が欠けている。その最大の理由は、仕事量に比して要員が少ないもとで、常に「仕事の区切り」のほうを「時間の区切り」よりも優先しているところにある。2)残業が多かれ少なかれ恒常化しているとはいえ、退社時間については各人が自由に設定しており、職場での集団的な拘束性はほとんどみられない。これは、かつてのごとく残業時間の長さが人事考課の対象となることがなくなり、専ら仕事の成果に移ってきたこととあいまって、職場での各人の時間管理の自立性をあらわしている。3)平日勤務の帰宅後は、男性の場合、家族との団欒やTV鑑賞など休養が圧倒的で、家事への参加度はきわめて低い。この傾向は年齢が高くなるほど顕著である。女性の場合は、そのほとんどの時間が家事に費やされ、若干の例外を除けば、その夫の家事の分担もまたきわめて少ない。他方、男性のうちごくわずかではあるが、週に1-2回演奏会に向けて楽器演奏の練習に参加するなど、自分の固有な時間をもっている場合がある。4)土、日の休日は、ショッピング、スポーツ、ドライヴ、散歩など家族で過ごす時間が多く、読書やゴルフなどの私的時間を確保している度合いも高くなる。5)多くの場合、仕事は単なる生活の資を稼ぐための手段というよりも、生きがいの核をなし、多かれ少なかれ自我の拠り所としての性格をもっている。これに対し余暇は、心身を癒し、仕事への活力の源泉という域をでず、余暇活動にアイデンティファイする事例は例外的であり、生活文化の限界が看取される。
