项目摘要
The purpose of the present study was to clarify socioeconomic factors affecting drinking and smoking behaviors in Japanese population, aiming at contributing to preventive measures for health effects caused by these behaviors. Relationships of various socioeconomic indicators to consumption of alcohol in 47 prefectures, historical aspects of tobacco policies and factors related to problem drinking were investigated. It was suggested that drinking and smoking behaviors were affected by various social, economic and psychological factors in Japan as well as in Western countries. Articles based on the study have been published in mainly in English journals. Trends in drinking and smoking during the past 30 years period in Japanese population are now under investigation.
