昨年度実施した調査研究に基づき、手話通訳に対する期待充足度を測定するための尺度を構成し、これを用いて聴覚障害者33名が、手話通訳事例を視聴して感じた期待の充足度得点を測定した。測定にあたっては、期待充足度尺度項目に総合評価を問う項目を加えた全26項目を使用し、6名の手話通訳者の通訳データを事例として用い、これをビデオを通して放映した後に、対象者に評価用紙にそって期待充足度を評定してもらった。事例の提示は一つずつ行い、対象者が用紙に記入し終わったことを確認した後、次の事例を提示した。この結果、6名の通訳者による通訳事例に対して総合評価を求めたところ、ほぼ全員の回答者が一致して高い評価をつけた事例から、そうでない事例など幅広く存在した。また、期待充足度尺度の下位項目に対する得点は、総合評価の非常に高い通訳事例の場合、聴覚障害者の期待内容にほぼそう形で通訳がされていたが、事例によっては「手話技術」に対する評価が低いものや、逆に「手話技術」への評価は高いが、「変換技術」や「情報量・忠実さ」に関する項目で低い得点を示したものなどがあり、これらの部分を改善することで総合評価の向上が望めることが示唆された。これらの結果に基づき、総合的考察として期待充足度尺度における評価得点と、平成12年度に実施した手話通訳作業の客観的分析結果との対応関係を分析したところ、通訳事例ごとに期待充足度に影響を与えるに至った通訳作業の特徴を探るとともに、これを元に期待充足度を高めるために必要な通訳作業の具体的内容を提示することができた。この結果、「手話技術因子」では、手話全体の異なり語数の量、およびこれに含まれる辞書形以外の比率が聴覚障害者の期待充足度に影響を与えており、また「変換技術因子」では、語レベルの変換作業のうち省略、同等を除いた付加、言い換え、圧縮・統合、原語借用の出現回数、中でも言い換えにおける下位概念へのより具体的で明確な言い換え数や、付加における文の関係を明確にするための接続詞の付加等が、特に期待充足度を高めるために効果的に機能していることなどが示唆された。
