Ziel dieser Untersuchungen ist es, anhand von Experimenten, bei denen Sinter gezüchtet werden, die Beeinflussung der Signale der stabilen Isotope von Kohlenstoff und Sauerstoff in natürlichen Karbonaten durch Reaktionskinetik, Verdunstung bei der Calcitfällung sowie Austauschprozesse mit der Umgebung zu bestimmen. Die Erkenntnisse aus den Laborexperimenten sollen auf rezente natürliche Stalagmiten übertragen werden und so zu einem besseren Verständnis der isotopischen Signale in fossilen Klima-Archiven dienen.
