This research project investigated natural and social conditions and the situations of water resources development and utilization in a number of river basins in Asian monsoon and humid tropic regions from Indochina, Malay Peninsula, Sunda Archipelago to Oceania. Collecting various kinds of physiographic data that indicate the characteristics of each river basin and information necessary for integrated catchment/water resources management, we stored them in the Asian Pacific FRIEND Water Archives and in the Catalogue of Rivers in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Vol.5.Each research member of this project, with the aid of water experts from overseas, conducted their own research, focusing on one of the following topics :1) Development of hydrological models in river basins,2) Construction of hydrological database management systems,3) Rainfall-runoff processes in forested catchments, and4) Modeling of sub-surface and groundwater flows and their database.The research results, data and var … More ious kinds information obtained are shared by the project members and by the participants in the following scientific meetings, in which a number of papers were presented.LAHS International Symposia on Erosion Prediction in Ungaged Basins (HSO1), Water Resources Systems (HS02), and Weather Radar Information and Distributed Hydrological Modellng (HS03), held during IUGG2003, the XXIII General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics, at Sapporo Japan; The First International Conference on Hydrology and Water Resources in Asia Pacific Region (APHW2003), Kyoto, Japan, March 13-15, 2003 ; International Conference on Managing Water Resources under Climatic Extremes and Natural Disasters (FIJI-2003), Sigatoka, Fiji, 27-28 October 2003 ; and International Symposium on Monitoring, Prediction and Mitigation of Disasters by Satellite Remote Sensing, Awaji Yumebutai, Hyogo, Japan, 19-21 January 2004.This report includes 50 papers presented in the scientific meetings above and others.
