本研究は、インターネット上の情報倫理に関するひとびとの意識・行動の実態と構造について、日米国際比較として実証的に(質問紙調査法による)明らかにすることを目的としている。平成14年度には、プリテスト(対象:日本の大学生)の分析結果を踏まえながら分析モデルを見直し、本調査(対象:日米の20-39歳の男女インターネットユーザー)の実施および結果考察と成果発表を行った。なお、本調査実施にかかっては日本学術振興会・未来開拓学術研究推進事業・「情報倫理の構築(FINE)」プロジェクトからも助成を受けた。調査結果の記述統計は報告書(奈良由美子編、インターネット上の倫理行動の構造に関する国際比較調査-情報倫理と日常倫理との関連性を中心に-調査報告書、「情報倫理の構築」プロジェクト、2002年7月)に詳しい。主に以下のような知見を得た。1.情報倫理意識・行動ともに、日本がアメリカよりも有意に好ましい状態にあった。2.インターネット利用頻度・リテラシーの高さは、情報倫理行動得点を有意に低下させる。3.日常倫理意識・行動と情報倫理意識・行動とのあいだには強い正の相関がある。4.共感性が高いと情報意識得点も高くなる。また、インターネット上で他人への親密感を伴うとき共感性は情報倫理行動に有意な影響を与える。5.合理的エゴイスト傾向の強いひとは、情報倫理意識が低く、さらにインターネット上で非道徳的に振る舞っている。6.良心形成の程度の高いひとは、インターネット上でも倫理的に行動している。
