社会の意志決定手続きは、実現可能な選択肢に関する社会構成員の選好や態度を表明させ、それらを集約するもの、と一般的には捉えることができる。国際社会における決定手続きも同様である。社会選択論では、社会の決定手続きを、社会の構成員の選好プロファイルの集合から選択肢の集合への関数として、数学的に定式化し、Social Choice Functions(社会的選択関数)と呼ぶ。今年度は、特に分配経済(Allotment Economy)モデル、すなわち分割可能な私的財がひとつのみ存在し、人々がその財について非単調な選好を持つモデルにおいて、Strategy-Proofness(戦略的選好表明を抑止する社会的選択関数の性質)、Pareto-EfficiencyおよびSymmetry(二人の消費者が同一の選好を持てば、その二人は無差別な量を配分されるという社会的選択関数の性質)を同時に満たす社会的選択関数が存在し得る社会選択関数の定義域について研究した。その結果として、以下のことを証明した。i)最低限に多様な選好の集合の上でつStrategy-Proofness、Pareto-EfficiencyおよびSymmetryの条件を満たす社会選択関数は、唯一つしか存在せず、それはUniform Ruleと呼ばれる社会選択関数である。ii)最低限に多様な選好の集合を含みかつStrategy-Proofness、Pareto-EfficiencyおよびSymmetryの条件を満たす社会選択関数が存在し得る最大の定義域は、唯一つしか存在せず、それはSingle-Plateued Preferenceとよばれる選好の集合である。
