(1)平成15年10月1日付けで外国人特別研究員に採用されたが、それ以後、上記研究テーマに関する資料・文献の検索と収集を開始した。(2)平成15年12月に北京へ行き、農村金融と農業・農村環境保全の研究に携わる中国農業大学、国務院農業部農村研究センターの学者らと面談し、中国国内での研究動向と研究成果を把握した。また、現地本調査の調査地の選択や段取りに関して貴重なアドバイスを得た。さらにまた、北京大学中国経済研究センター、中国人民銀行金融研究所等の図書館で関連資料・文献・情報を収集した。全体として、合計約60kgの文献・資料を収集した。(3)平成16年2月末には、中国農業大学と南京農業大学の協力を得て、経済発展の遅れた西部地域に位置する四川省(四川省銀監局、成都農村信用連合社、温江区農村信用合作社、大邑県信用連合社、韓場信用社、地元の農村中小企業・農家)と、経済発展の進む東部地域にある江蘇省(江蘇省銀監局、蘇州市農村信用連合社、鎮江市農業発展銀行等)で本調査を行った。この調査では、それぞれの農村金融機関の経営実態、地域の自然環境を守るための取り組み、ならびにそれをサポートする資金の確保等の問題について関係者からの聞き取り調査を行った。また、地域間の比較分析を行うために必要な資料・文献・情報の収集も行った。現在、収集した資料の整理とデータの入力等、論文作成に必要な作業を行っている。(4)平成15年末には、農村環境保全の事例分析をテーマとする論文を中部農業経済学会誌に投稿し、現在審査中となっている。
