In this study the fundamental data of durability of steel bridges were obtained and the lifecycle analysis related to lifecycle cost and lifecycle environmental impact was done using them, The evaluation procedures of the durability of painted steels and base-isolated rubber bearing were established considering the site environment.Firstly the durability of re-painted steels was dealt with using the accelerated exposure test in the S-6 JIS environment. The re-painted steel specimens using four types of painting systems, i.e. A-type, B-type, C-type and I-type were applied to the long-term accelerated exposure test. In order to check the validity of the test data, the second series of accelerated exposure test was performed using the re-painted steels cut from the used steel bridge by 70 years. The deteriorated curves for three types of painting systems were established to evaluate the durability of the bridge. The purpose of third series of test study is to evaluate the influence factors … More of aged rubber bearings on the seismic response of single steel bridge piers. The relationship between ageing and base-isolated rubber bearings' long-term performance is studied. Then the steel bridge piers with base-isolated rubber bearing are modeled as two-degree of freedom systems, and through dynamic analysis the response and damage of the structures are calculated. The rubber bearing is replaced by an aged one and the seismic performance of the pier is evaluated. The influence of rubber bearing's ageing is compared and discussed. Finally, a procedure to determine the maintenance strategy of the base-isolated rubber bearing is proposed based on the long-term seismic performance of the steel bridge pier. The lifecycle analysis of existing types of bridges and rationalized bridges were performed. The characteristics of the lifecycle cost and lifecycle environmental impact considering the deterioration were clarified compared the existing types of bridges. These results will be very useful to establish the total management system of bridges. Less
