当研究の当初の目的は、意味論的に特殊であるとされる隠喩表現の意味とは何かを明確にし、その形式化を行うことであり、その手法としてゲーム理論的意味論を用いることにあった。しかし隠喩表現の意味の柔軟性(意味がひとつには定まらず、別の言葉で置き換えると複数の言葉が必要になってくることが多い:意味の複数性)を尊重することを重視し、かつ隠喩表現を用いることによって情報の効率的な受け渡しが可能であること(一つの表現を用いることによって、複数の要素の参照を示唆でき、かつ理解が容易になる:アナロジーを用いた説明など)を考慮すると、ゲーム理論的意味論よりもInformation Flowの枠組みを用いる方が、より的確なモデルを提示できると考えるに至った。この場合、表現の「意味」から「情報の伝達」に重点が移行することになり、この移行は隠喩の、意味として不安定な在り方を考慮した場合に、有意義かつ生産的な移行であると思われる。平成17年度に行った研究結果は以下の通りである。1,Information Flowのチャンネル理論とその応用に関する研究2,Lakoff & Johnsonの認知的隠喩に関する研究3,Gentner et al.のStructure Mapping Theoryとアナロジーに関する研究4,Gaerdenforsのconceptual spaceに関する研究5,1、2、3の成果としての学会発表(日本科学哲学会)6,Haser, Leezenbergのメタファー研究に関する文献研究7,1、2、3の成果としての論文執筆(現在執筆中、日本科学哲学会誌に投稿予定)今後の研究予定は、二年間の研究結果を総括し、博士論文を完成させることである。
