项目摘要

本年度は、カラス(ハシブトガラス)が他個体の「行為」を理解しうるかについて、観察学習課題を用いた実験を行い検証した。実験は、二行為手続き法を用いた。2通りの開け方が可能な、餌の入った箱を、デモ個体が特定の1つの方法のみで開けている様子を、観察個体に一定期間呈示した。観察期間終了後、デモ個体がいない条件下において、観察個体に同じ箱を提示し、いずれの方法で箱を開けるかを問うた。さらに、異なる2つの箱を用い、デモ個体-観察個体の社会的順位関係に着目し、異なる組み合わせ(上位-下位,下位-上位)を準備することで、観察学習の可否だけでなく、そこにおける社会的文脈の関与も検証した。結果、観察個体である8個体すべてが、テスト第1試行目から、観察したのと同じ方法で箱を開けることに成功した。また、上位個体は観察した行為を、第2試行目以降も継続したが、下位の観察個体の中には、第2試行目以降、観察したのとは異なる方法を改めて学習した個体が見られた。以上のことから、「(1)カラスは他個体の行為を観察することで、問題解決の行為を学習することができる。」、「(2)観察により学習した方法を継続するか否かの戦術面においては、個体同士の社会的順位関係により異なる可能性がある。」ことが見出された。これらのことは、カラスが他個体の行為を通じて外界の因果関係を理解する認知能力を持つ可能性を示唆すると共に、それが導く行動戦術は、社会的文脈により個体間で異なる可能性を示唆する。今後は、カラスが観察学習をする際の手がかりを心理学的に明らかにすると共に、その神経科学的基盤についても検証する必要がある。
