当該研究の最終年にあたる平成17年度は、これまで研究してきた1920年代の芸術作品に関する研究をまとめる傍ら、現代大衆文化において価値転覆的な表象を担ってきた新たなパッシングのモデル(黒人文化にとどまらないもの)を広く分析し、業績にまとめた。ここで主となった調査対象は、従来知られるパッシングの常套を反転する行為,すなわち、白人歌手が黒人になりすましてデビューする、異性愛芸術家が同性愛者になりすますことにより己の創作に価値を付与するといった、米国では1980年代初頭より顕著になった攪乱的パッシングの文化的背景である。具体的には、192,30年代の舞台芸術および映画産業におけるパッシング的演目の取り締まりを問題にしたが、これらは明治学院大学言語文化研究所における講演、東京大学・表象文化論学会におけるシンポジウムで公表された。同時に、アジア人男性のジェンダーと合衆国の軍事文化を含意したパッシング表象の分析も行った。これらは『言語文化』、『F-GENSジャーナル』、お茶の水女子大学COEシンポジウム、アメリカ比較文学会にて発表された。なお、主に20世紀ハリウッド映画を素材とした以上の研究実績の他、以下3点の個別的研究を行った。すなわち、異性装とセクシュアリティについての理論的考察(『現代思想』)、ある米国女性大衆歌手の演技についての考察(『ユリイカ』)、モダニズム作家・アーネスト・ヘミングウェイのジェンダー・人種表象(『ヘミングウェイ研究』)についての考察である。こうして、文献資料のみならず図象や聴覚資料をも紹介しつつ、大衆文化の想像力にも広く影響を与えたと思われるパッシングの政治学を描くことで、本研究はひとまず終了された。これはまた、1920年代に始まる黒人文化が結晶化した一つの問題系が、現代の表現文化にいかに受け継がれてきたか、その道筋を検証する作業にもなった。
