図書寮本類聚名義抄の片仮名和訓を中心に、個々の和訓とその出典について分析・調査を行った。まず、図書寮本の出典標示方式を図書寮本の標示形態そのものから解明した。その過程で、掲出字ごとの出典表示一覧データを作成した。その上で、図書寮本の標示方式に従い理論的に推定される出典を、訓点本との比較によって、可能な限り確認・補訂するようつとめた。『毛詩』『史記』『文選』『遊仙窟』など複製本の存在する訓点本についてその作業を完了した。他書についても作業を継続中である。また、複製等の存在しない典籍については原本の実地調査を行い、必要部分を電子化した。例えば、真興の大般若経音訓を多く引用する『息心抄』(叡山文庫)の原本実地調査を行い、引用部分の入力整理と対照を終えた。同時に、古辞書の通時的な研究を行い、就中、新撰字鏡、倭名類聚抄、図書寮本類聚名義抄について研究を行った。それらを通して、図書寮本類聚名義抄を中心に、古辞書の本質的意味と機能とについて考察した。その結果、古辞書は、そのあり方の根本的なレベルにおいて、材料による制約を受けていることを見出した。例えば、新撰字鏡では、部首分類体・単字辞書という辞書全体の基本的性格に背く、意義分類体・熟字掲出部分が見られる。この現象は、和訓を掲載した材料の使用に起因すると考えられる。また、「和名」を類聚しているはずの倭名類聚抄に、和訓を欠く条項が見られる。これは、材料である漢語抄類にその和訓が存在しなかったためであろう。図書寮本類聚名義抄では、漢文注を持たず、和訓のみの条項が見られる。それは、訓点本という材料から和訓を抜き出すことに伴って生じた現象と考えられる。いずれも、辞書が材料に依存することによって生じた現象として理解できる。辞書は、様々な材料を素材として活用しながら、ある意味で、材料に従属していると言える。
