平成17年度は平成16年度の研究成果(古英語・中英語の「心」・「精神」・「記憶」を表す語彙についてのデータ収集と分析)を精査し、正当性を確認することから始めた。そして、その結果をもとに「心」・「精神」・「記憶」の概念を含む「心的事象」を表す語彙領域の歴史的変化について考察を試みた。平成17年度は平成15年度から継続研究を行なってきた最後の年度に当たるため、前・前々年度に行なわれたデータ収集・分析をもとに「心的現象」を表す語彙領域の構造とその歴史について考察を行なった。平成16年度の研究成果の見直しでは、The Corpus of Old Englishのデータが平成15年度の時点と異なる(更新されている)可能性があるので新しいデータと古いデータを照合した。また文献についても新たな参考文献をあたる作業を行なった。「心的事象」を表す語彙分野の構造と歴史的変化については以下の発見があった。「心」・「精神」・「記憶」のそれぞれの概念には中心となる語が存在し、それらの語は自分の属する語彙領域の境界を超えながら他の語の意味・意味領域に影響を与えながら歴史的変化を遂げている。「心的事象」を表す語彙での、意味と意味領域での興味深い変化は古英語のgemyndにみられた。Gemyndの古英語から中英語へかけての「記憶」を表す語領域から「心」を表す語領域への変化、そしてこのgemyndの意味変化が他の語や語彙領域に与える影響は興味深い現象である。当該研究の調査対象である語の意味、および語彙領域の変化については文化・社会的事象との強い関わりは観測できなかった。しかし、さらに調査対象の語および語彙領域を拡げることにより文化・社会的事象との関わり合いについても新たな考察が可能となるであろう。
