There have been many studies on Japanese acceptance of western sciences. But they mainly focused on professional discourses. But the process of popularization of sciences is not limited in professional research and education. Public acceptance of scientific knowledge is the important part of modernization of Japanese society. We studied some aspects of Japanese acceptance of scientific knowledge in the public, and the relationship between scientific ideas and their representations in Japanese literature. We investigated academic journals, for example Zoological Journal, popular science magazines, juvenile magazines, and 1970s mass media discourse on occultism (pseudoscience). We held four academic meetings, once in each year.

关于日本人接受西方科学的研究有很多。但他们主要集中在专业话语上。但科普的过程并不局限于专业研究和教育。公众对科学知识的接受是日本社会现代化的重要组成部分。我们研究了日本公众对科学知识的接受程度，以及科学思想与其在日本文学中的表现之间的关系。我们调查了学术期刊，例如《动物学杂志》、科普杂志、青少年杂志以及 20 世纪 70 年代大众媒体关于神秘主义（伪科学）的论述。我们召开了四次学术会议，每年一次。
