平成17年11月末に、課程博士学位申請論文「ベッサラビア統治から見た帝政ロシアの膨張と統合-1812-1917年-」を北海道大学大学院文学研究科に提出。それはロシア帝国の膨張と統合という二つの機能とその相互関係について明らかにすることにより、帝政ロシアの辺境統治を研究するための新しい枠組みを提示することを目的としている。特に空間的にも政策的にも帝国の内外の両方に目を向けることにより、帝政ロシアの辺境統治と帝国理念、内政と外交を総合的に分析することを目指している。また従来のロシア帝国の辺境統治研究においては民族ファクターが重視されてきたが、ここでは空間ファクターを重視した。分析対象としているベッサラビアは、従来「ルーマニア人地域」として認識されてきたが、ここではギリシャ・ファクターと「ポスト・ビザンツ空間」としての特性の重要性を指摘。また帝政ロシアの辺境統治を単なる国内問題として認識するのではなく、外界との関係を視野に入れ、「中央-辺境」から「中央-辺境-外界」の構図を提案。そして帝国の統合の機能にのみ目を向ける従来の傾向に対し、膨張と統合の融合的分析の必要性を結論した。また学位申請論文の一部を「イェルサレム問題-ロシアの正教政策とベッサラビアにおける修道院領-」として北海道大学大学院文学研究科研究論集の第5号に投稿。2月12日から3月4日にかけて、ロシアのサンクトペテルブルクとモスクワに出張。学位申請論文のデータ補足のための資料収集を行った。サンクトペテルブルクでは、科学アカデミー文書館サンクトペテルブルク支部、ロシア民族図書館で作業し、モスクワではロシア帝国外交文書館、ロシア国立文書館、ロシア国立図書館で作業。文書館では帝政ロシアの正教外交とベッサラビア修道院領問題に関する一次史料を集め、図書館ではそのテーマのほかに、ベッサラビアの現地法に関する公刊資料を収集。(797文字)
