5歳齢保育園児の逸脱行動とそれに対する保育士の介入行動についてデータの収集および検討を行った結果、幼児の逸脱行動に対し、保育士は児の名前を呼ぶ行動や、児の行動に対し指示、命令を行うことが多く認められた。また、保育士が介入を行った逸脱行動を示した幼児には、性差は認められず、保育士からの介入に対する児の反応にも顕著な違いは認められなかった。幼児の保育士の介入に対する反応について、保育士が介入を示した際に児を見ていた場合や、保育士の介入方略の一つである「質問」の継続時間が長かった場合には幼児の逸脱行動が抑制されることが明らかとなった。5歳齢児の逸脱行動およびそれに対する保育士の介入行動を、3歳齢児を対象とした同様の観察と比較すると、保育士の介入行動は年齢が異なっても同様の方略、例えば「呼称」や「指示・命令」、を用いることが多いことが明らかとなった。これは保育園という環境の中で、幼児の逸脱行動に対する保育士の関わりかけが、比較的一貫していることを示している。一方、幼児の行動については、保育士の「見る」行動に対して、5歳齢児で頻繁に反応しており、他者の視線を認知することにより、自身の逸脱行動を抑制することが示唆された。発達障害を有する児に対しての保育士の介入行動は、健常児に対するそれとは異なり、接触等のより直接的なものであった。上記の研究とあわせて、保育園において、保育士の特別な配慮が必要と思われる幼児の調査を継続して、実施した。4歳齢から6歳齢までにおいて、各年齢において、特別な配慮が必要な幼児が1〜3名程度存在していた。その内容は、「集団場面において逸脱しやすい」、「食事時の偏食が強い」、「他児に対して攻撃的である」等が挙げられ、多くの場合は社会性に関して課題がなお、存在することが認められた。
