熱帯季節林における3年間の調査により得られた、熱帯季節林での細根の現存量、組成と土壌動物群集の構造(グループの構成)から、細根の組成は、土壌動物の種類構成に影響していることが明らかとなった。細根の現存量と土壌動物の個体数には高い相関性が見いだされた。さらに、細根と土壌動物の現存量の間にも相関性が認められた。土壌動物群集の維持における細根の重要性が明らかとなった
