Basic Research for the Model Development of Media Education from the View Point of Artistic Approach

The purpose of this study is to reconsider the value of various media in education from an artistic view point, and to develop some practical models for the new media education which leads the creative activities through physical sense, visual and haptic sense. We focused. On collecting and examining the past cases in. 2005, preparing drafts of educational contents in 2006, examining some models in 2007.1. Examining the educational value of media and development of the models in the field of "Moving Image", "Digital Communication" and "Crafts".ITO Ryusuke developed the learning programs for understanding Moving Images with the method of camera-less animation. MIURA Keiko developed the programs which bring students a spatial awareness on a computer display in Digital Communication. In the filed of Crafts, SASAKI Keishi considered the manual work and media through planning the art programs for "International Youth Exchange in Hokkaido". SASAKI Tsukasa was involved in the workshops and exhibitions for children at Kushiro Art Museum, Hokkaido, and developed some art programs of "Lights and Shadows. ARAI Yoshifumi practically considered the utilization of media as learning methods.2. The Field Researches in Sweden and FinlandWe collected the advanced practical cases at some universities (Konstfack, KKH, UIAH, Lapland University), museums and cultural halls, Fiskars art village, comprehensive schools in Sweden and Finland. It was found that they had unique characteristics in education, which were emphasis of photograph and moving images, the relation between materials as media and expression in crafts, and the snow and ice-art using physical sense in winter.3. ConclusionWe found the possibilities of education for media in various aspects of art; Moving Image, Digital Communication, Crafts, Art Appreciation, and proposed the practical models for all levels of education.
