今年度は、沖縄県からの出稼ぎについて、沖縄県・愛知県の両県でフィールド調査を行った。沖縄県においては、県庁を中心に出稼ぎに関する統計資料の収集および労働関係部署の職員から聞き取り調査を行った。沖縄県では、出稼ぎ労働者に関するアンケート調査が多数行われておりこの調査結果報告から沖縄県における県外出稼ぎ労働者の属性・出稼ぎ理由が明らかとなった。また、愛知県一宮市で繊維関連企業および女子短大において聞き取り調査を行った。愛知県一宮市の繊維関連企業は沖縄県における高校卒業の新規学卒の出稼ぎ女性の主な受け入れ先の一つである。同地域の繊維関連企業は、1970年代から80年代にかけて、遠隔地から高校新規学卒女性を募集し、企業と大学が提携して工場で就労しながら進学する制度を作り上げた。この制度により、多数の九州南部・沖縄出身者を受け入れていたが、2005年度を最後に沖縄県での募集を停止している。この主な原因は、一宮市の繊維関連産業が衰退し、新規の募集そのものが少なくなっていること、新たな労働力として中国を中心とする他国からの研修生の利用が拡大していることである。このような国内と海外からの出稼ぎ労働者の競合が、沖縄での募集停止に大きく関わっていると考えられ、沖縄からの県外出稼ぎ労働者の中心は、新規学卒者から一般へと変化している。この調査結果については、2007年7月に香港中文大学で開催された国際人口地理学会において発表した。統計資料によれば、一般(新規学卒でない)出稼ぎ女性の多くは、愛知県の電気機械工場で就労しており、これらの女性の就労状況については、今後の研究課題として残された。
