本研究は、比較発達心理学的研究であり、ヒトに特有な母子相互作用の生成過程とその進化的基盤を解明に寄与することを目的としている。ヒト母子とチンパンジー母子との相互交渉の発達を、自然および直接、かつ多面的に比較しようとするものである。特に、母子関係における「葛藤(コンフリクト)」という側面に焦点を当て、ヒト健常児、ヒト障害児、チンパンジー健常児とその母親の間で展開されるコミュニケーション行動を比較する。平成19年度は、当初の計画では、ヒト障害児母子とチンパンジー障害児母子ヒトにおける「葛藤」に関する縦断的研究を実施する予定だったが、平成17年度に対象としていたチンパンジー障害児が死亡したため、観察は中断した。ヒト障害児母子の観察は19年度後期より開始することができたが、現在も継続中である。また、これまでに引き続き、ビデオ記録をもとに母子相互交渉について行動学的に徹底した定性的記述をおこなった。ヒト乳幼児とその母親、チンパンジー乳幼児とその母親、各3組の母子について収集したビデオ記録の中から「母子コンフリクト」場面を抽出し、データ分析を継続している。「母子コンフリクト」場面における情動的コミュニケーション行動、特に、乳幼児の「むずかり」や「泣き」といった苦痛な表情や発声に着目し、分析を進めた。こうした情動的コミュニケーション行動から、乳幼児の攻撃性や回避性、指向性の増加や減少、母子関係の変化におけるダイナミズムを捉え、母子それぞれのコンフリクト行動のレパートリーを明らかにした。平成17年度および18年度で遂行した研究の結果を比較し、こうした結果を平成19年5月に人間の心の霊長類的起源-比較認知科学国際シンポジウム2008-で発表予定である。
