项目摘要

本研究補助金の成果として、研究代表者は、英国における国際関係史学会で、18年度にThe Yellow Peril and the Russo-Japanese war-The Racial question and Anglo-Japanese relations-, 19年度にJapanese Pan-Asianism and the West, 1894-1919, 20年度にAustralian defense policy and White Australian policy, 1901-1921という題目で三回学会発表、また日本では日本オーストラリア学界で20年6月に「オーストラリア移民規制問題と大英帝国の問題、1894-1924年」という課題で白豪主義と日系移民の問題について成果発表を行った。本発表はインドという英国にとって重要な植民地からの白人自治領への移民問題がインド・ナショナリズムを生み、これが後にインドがアジア主義運動に関わるきっかけになったなど、次なる研究への発展にもつながった。なお、The Yellow Peril and the Russo-Japanese war-The Racial question and Anglo-Japanese relations-は『中京大学紀要』(2007年)、Japanese Pan-Asianism and the West,1894-1919は『東北学院大学紀要』(2008年)に論文として、オーストラリア学会での報告は『西洋史学』(2008年)の学会発表報告という形で掲載された。またこれら成果の集大成として、英国の高水準の学術書出版社と知られるオックフォード大学出版会から共著、The Diplomats' World, a cultural history of diplomacy, 1851-1914として2008年の12月に出版された。以上の経緯から本研究は人種問題を国際関係などの政治・外交研究において位置付け、外交文化史研究という新しい研究分野を切り開き、学会への多大なる貢献となった。
