Suppression of vortex induced oscillation of a rectangular cylinder by sound

A rectangular cylinder supported by spring in a flow meets vortex induced oscillation. In this study the vortex excited oscillation is tried to be suppressed by sound. The sound is emitted at the leading edges of the rectangular cylinder.The sound whose frequency was up to 300 Hz and having sufficient sound pressure could suppress the oscillation.The low frequency suction and blowing produced by a piston was applied instead of sound. The suction and blowing above 10 Hz had suppression effect. The dynamic pressure by approaching flow was used instead of piston blowing. In this method the suppression effect was appeared only translation motion of vortex oscillation.The flow measurement test showed that the sound progressed the transition of separated flow and shrunk the separated bubble. The measurement of unsteady pressure showed that the sound had the effect of reducing the amplitude of surface pressure.
