トンネル電子やフェムト秒レーザパルスによって直接あるいは間接的に励起された振動数モード(分子を構成する原子間の伸縮モード、基板-分子伸縮、束縛並進、束縛回転などの低振動数モード)との非調和相互作用による反応座標モードの振動加熱の理論構築を行い、これらの分野での先駆的な実験結果を説明することで、電子・振動励起による一酸化炭素などの吸着分子ダイナミックスの理論で世界をリードする研究成果を挙げることができた。
