ベトナム農業・農村の構造変化を捉えるという目的で、3カ年にわたりベトナムを代表するふたつのデルタで農家調査を行った。両デルタの地域差は歴然としているが、その地域差を超えて、農村経済の改善、農業構造の変化が起こりつつある。その変化を一言でいえば、労働過剰経済から労働不足経済への転換であり、今のベトナム農村はいわゆる転換点に立っているということにほかならない。その経済構造の転換を受けて今後のベトナム農業がどういう方向に動くかは、二つのデルタで大きく異なるものになるとみられる。紅河デルタでは超零細な兼業農家が主流で二極分解は起こりそうもないが、メコンデルタではダイナミックな分極化のもと、規模の大きな農業が成立するものとみられる。
