黒松針葉の表皮は、高含有量の脂質を有するため、脂溶性環境汚染物質の効率的蓄積特性を有する。そのため、黒松針葉を評価試料として国際的に問題視されているポリ臭素化ジフェニルエーテル(PBDEs)による簡易大気汚染評価法の開発を試みた。大気中に存在する気相状のPBDEsが主に黒松針葉へ蓄積することが判明し、評価法の開発が可能となった。また、この手法を用いて、全国各地におけるPBDEsによる大気汚染を比較した。
