日本列島に広く分布するブナは光合成窒素利用効率、窒素生産力、窒素滞留時間、夏場の蒸散速度、水利用効率、リター分解速度、摂食機能群ごとの葉の食害度など様々な機能的性質に地理的な変異を持つことが明らかとなった。これらの形質は遺伝的にも固定されていると考えられることから、現在のブナ林生態系は環境変動に対してある程度可塑的に応答するものの、温暖化など急速な変化に対しては脆弱な側面もあると考えられた。
In Japan, the distribution of plant nutrients is based on the following factors: photosynthetic element utilization efficiency, nutrient productivity, nutrient retention time, evaporation rate of summer field, water utilization efficiency, decomposition rate of plant nutrients, functional group of plant nutrients, leaf toxicity, and functional properties. The nature of the forest is fixed, and the environment is changing.
