マレーシア熱帯多雨林において、樹種間の樹冠形態特性を解明し、林冠葉群三次元構造を記述する手法を確立した。個体の樹冠構造に基づく林冠三次元構造解析と葉群リモートセンシングという二つのアプローチを用いた。200種の樹冠ディメンション間の関係を階層ベイズモデルを用いて推定した。樹種間差は、最大到達サイズと耐陰性で大きく説明され、それぞれ、垂直方向の葉群分布と、水平方向のギャップ動態による光不均質性という環境構造に対応していた。
