統合失調症を有する人のセルフスティグマは、回復や生活の質などに大きな影響を及ぼしている。従って、セルフスティグマを克服するプログラムの開発は当事者の自殺を防止するとともに地域生活を支援していく上できわめて重要な課題となっている。このセルフスティグマの克服には、当事者の社会的自立を促す面や当事者のエンパワメントの面で有効であるピアサポート・セルフヘルプの体験が重要であった。
