日本企業の組織構造は事業部制組織構造が一般的であるが,固定的なものではなく,変化していた。また国によっても異なり,事業部長への権限移譲は遅れていた。日本企業は既存主力事業への投資を維持・強化しつつ,事業数は縮小させる傾向にあったが,イギリス企業はより積極的に市場関連領域へ進出を行っていた。ただ経営成果の分析を見ると,既存主力事業を強化しながら事業数を拡大する「コア多角化型」が好業績であることが明らかとなった。
