2成分反応拡散系において,拡散係数(2成分とも)にステップ状の空間非一様な摂動を与えたときの解のダイナミクスを,中心多様体理論を用いて有限次元の常微分方程式に縮約し,その縮約系を解析することにより,全体の解構造(安定定常解,不安定定常解,不安定周期解の存在,Hopf分岐,ホモクリニック分岐,分水嶺解の役割など)を決定し,非一様性の為に起こる進行波の通過,停止,反射のメカニズムを理論的に明らかにした。
