医療技術として多くの病院で活用されているMRI。この根幹となる技術は,磁気共鳴と呼ばれる測定技術,そして磁石が作る空間の歪み(磁場)の値を空間的に変化させる(磁場の勾配を作る)技術です。我々は,近年の卓越したナノテクノロジーと独自の超高感度磁気共鳴手法を駆使することで,極めて微小な磁石の作る磁場が通常のMRIの1,000倍程度の大きな磁場の勾配を作っていることを,世界で初めて実験的に明らかにすることに成功しました。これは,1,000倍以上高精度のMRIを実現する基礎技術となります。
