1990年の政府通達以降,共同森林管理(JFM)が拡大したインドにおいて, 適用面積の大きい州と小さい州の事例としてそれぞれマッディヤプラデーシュとアッサムを選び, 現地調査を実施した。その結果,いずれの州でも中央政府補助金やODA資金が開始の契機をなしており,多様な非木材林産物を産出する落葉季節林帯では,指定部族の存在はJFMの推進要因となっていることが示唆された。
