赤血球侵入型マラリア原虫の細胞内小器官には、多くのワクチン候補抗原が局在するが、これらの細胞内分子輸送機構の詳細は不明である。RhopH2のプロモーターとシグナル配列を加えるだけでタンパク質が標的細胞内小器官に輸送されることに着目し、様々の分子について組換え熱帯熱マラリア原虫を作成し、解析した。また、EBLという分子はアミノ酸が一つだけ変化するだけで細胞内局在が変化し、病原性まで劇的に変化することを見出した。
